Plant Description

The latest Prairieblues introduction from the Chicago Botanic Garden, ‘Lunar Eclipse’ has unique and oversized flowers that are produced on long inflorescences held well above the foliage. Flowers open pale lemon, then age first to cream, then to light then ultimately medium violet, producing a unique 2-to-3-toned color effect. Plants have an open, vase shape growing 30-36” tall and somewhat wider. The flower show is stunning in late spring and early summer because of the unusually large flowers and the range of concurrent colors. Give this beauty full sun and average to dry soil. Grasses, coneflowers, yarrows, coreopsis, and milkweeds are natural companions.
