Plant Description

This is the big, beautiful, wild, perennial Black-eyed Susan. It grows 3-4 feet tall, and has large flower heads, 2 to 3 inches across with somewhat lax petals, on branched stems. It has bright golden yellow flowers with dark brown/black centers. Flowering lasts from mid summer into fall. Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii is the native plant from which the popular cultivar Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' has been derived. It makes a nice, strong, 3 foot plus spreading ground cover. It is easy and tough, and over time, may cover quite a bit of ground. Butterflies love it while in flower and birds relish the seeds later.
