Plant Description

For spectacular color and exquisite blossoms, ‘Colorific’ Louisiana iris is the perfect choice for your rain garden, water garden, or moist perennial garden. Louisiana iris is the general name of a large group of irises resulting from hybridization both natural and man-made of 5 species that are native to Louisiana and surrounding states. These include Iris fulva, I. brevicaulis, I. nelsonii, I. hexagona, and I. giganticaerulea. The resulting Louisiana irises show a beautiful range of flower colors from white, to yellow, to red-orange, to blue-purple, many of which are 2-or-3-toned. They all bloom in early summer and will thrive in full sun in good soils ranging from average to wet. This particular variety, ‘Colorific’, is a show stopper. It has 3”, bi-toned flowers with light lavender-pink stands with striking dark veins and magenta-purple falls. It is elegant and beautiful and combines well with so many early summer flowers.
