Plant Description

Arabella, a Royal Horticultural Society award winner, is beautiful, super easy to grow, and has a very long bloom time. From early summer into mid fall, this semi-erect, non-clinging, perennial clematis flowers its head off sporting masses of 3.5” bright blue-purple flowers. It is hardy and easy, wanting full to part sun and moist, well drained soil.  It’s not a vine but rather grows 3 to 5’ long and is nice as a rambler through shrubs, draped over a wall, or a fluffy ground cover. It would look great growing with native azaleas, fothergilla, or bottlebrush buckeye where its flowers would sparkle after those of the shrubs have faded. This clematis dies to the ground over the winter, so pruning isn’t a factor. It flowers on new growth.
