Plant Description

A robust clump former, Blue Wild Indigo is long-lived and drought tolerant.

  • The combination of bright green leaves and deep purple/blue is a great addition to your garden.
  • Blue Wild Indigo is an easy to grow perennial flower.
  • These flowers are a great match for a variety of other flowers.

A very showy plant found in open woods and along stream sides, Blue Wild Indigo is a good one for the sunny perennial border or woods edge where soils are not very acidic. Four- to fifteen-inch long spikes of deep blue/purple pea-shaped flowers appear in late spring followed by attractive pods. The plants grow in bushy, branched clumps two to five feet tall and have clover-shaped leaves. This is an easy, low maintenance species especially attractive with Amsonia, Coreopsis, Penstemon, Coneflowers, grasses, and Peonies. It is definitely one of our top ten favorites!
