Plant Description

Polygonatum multiflorum is the European Solomon's Seal and 'variegatum' is a variety which has beautiful green leaves that are streaked with white and pale green, and which have narrow white margins. Its graceful 2 foot tall stems are unbranched and have pairs of oval leaves and clusters of small, pendulous, tubular white flowers. Flowering is in late spring for a few weeks. Solomon's Seal likes bright shade and cool, moist, good soil where it will spread forming nice drifts. It will tolerate drier sites but will not spread quickly. Variegated Solomon's Seal would make an excellent addition to any woodland garden. Because of its ease of culture and its beauty, it has been designated the 2013 Perennial of the Year by the Perennial Plant Association.
