Vaccinium x ‘Sunshine Blue’

Blueberry, Southern Highbush

$ 14.95

Item #: 1628
Pot Size: full quart

Plant Description

Regarded as a very good low-chill blueberry for southern regions, ‘Sunshine Blue’ is ideal for backyard fruit production. This means it needs just 150 hours below 45 degrees to induce flowering for later fruiting. It is a southern highbush, producing large sweet berries over a very long period in the summer. Although it does not require a different pollinator, it will yield best when planted with another early flowering variety (maybe ‘O’Neal’). It is semi-dwarf and only grows 3-4’ tall and wide. It has beautiful late spring, pink flowers, and glaucous blue leaves that start out with a bronze cast. As with all the blueberries, plant ‘Sunshine Blue’ in full sun and organic, acidic, medium to wet, well drained soil. It will turn firey red in the fall. This shrub is truly a three season, multi purpose plant, and it is perfect for containers.
