Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Blue’

$ 11.95

Item #: 1668
Pot Size: full quart

Plant Description

‘Black and Blue’ is a large, robust, flowering machine for big spaces. And hummingbirds break the rules here because they absolutely LOVE this salvia even though it is not red. Brilliant sky blue flowers with nearly black calyces or “holders” rise on black stems a foot or more above 3’ tall, bushy green plants. ‘Black and Blue’ flowers from mid-summer into fall in full sun and average to moist soil. Dead heading keeps it flowering in full force. Hummingbirds, especially, and butterflies won’t leave it alone. This one comes from Brazil so treat it as an annual in the north. When happy, it forms spreading underground rhizomes and can cover a lot of space in warmer gardens. Use it at the back of your garden or as a flowering hedge. Stunning with yellow coneflowers, phlox, daisies, salvia ‘Hot Lips’, and black-eyed Susans.
